Background

org.keycloak:keycloak-core is a Maven package that provides core functionality for Keycloak, an open-source identity and access management solution. It is responsible for parsing SAML messages and handling attribute values. This vulnerability affects versions prior to 2.5.1.

Vulnerability Detail

The StaxParserUtil class in keycloak-core replaces special strings for obtaining attribute values with system properties while parsing SAML messages. An attacker can exploit this by formatting the SAML request ID field to be a chosen system property, which can then be obtained in the "InResponseTo" field of the response. This allows the attacker to determine the values of system properties on the attacked system, potentially leading to unauthorized access or information disclosure.
