Background

The Jenkins HTML Publisher Plugin is a plugin for the Jenkins continuous integration and delivery system. It allows users to publish HTML reports as part of their build process. The plugin provides a build step that can be configured to generate and publish HTML reports based on specified criteria. This vulnerability affects versions 1.15 and older of the plugin.

Vulnerability Detail

A path traversal vulnerability exists in the HtmlPublisherTarget.java file of the Jenkins HTML Publisher Plugin. Attackers who are able to configure the HTML Publisher build step can exploit this vulnerability to override arbitrary files on the Jenkins master. The vulnerability allows for unauthorized access and modification of files, potentially leading to unauthorized code execution or data leakage. In version 1.16, non-alphanumeric characters in report names are escaped to mitigate this vulnerability.
