Background
Hibernate ORM is an object-relational mapping framework for the Java programming language. It provides a framework for mapping an object-oriented domain model to a relational database. The infinispan-hibernate-cache-v53 package is an extension of Hibernate ORM that integrates it with Infinispan, a distributed in-memory key/value data store. This package allows Hibernate to use Infinispan as a second-level cache for improved performance. However, versions before 5.3.18, 5.4.18, and 5.5.0.Beta1 of this package are vulnerable to a SQL injection attack.
Vulnerability Detail
The vulnerability in the infinispan-hibernate-cache-v53 package arises from a flaw in the implementation of the JPA Criteria API. When a literal is used in the SELECT or GROUP BY parts of a query, unsanitized literals can be permitted, leading to a SQL injection vulnerability. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to access unauthorized information or potentially conduct further attacks. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 6.5, indicating a moderate severity level.

Conclusion
The infinispan-hibernate-cache-v53 package is vulnerable to a SQL injection attack in versions before 5.3.18, 5.4.18, and 5.5.0.Beta1. It is recommended to upgrade to the fixed versions of the package to mitigate this vulnerability. For further support on vulnerability remediation, please contact DevNack.com.
