Background

The spring-security-oauth and spring-security-oauth2 packages are used for implementing OAuth 2.0 authorization servers and clients in Spring applications. These packages provide functionality for handling authentication and authorization processes. However, versions prior to 2.3.5, 2.2.4, 2.1.4, and 2.0.17 are vulnerable to an open redirector attack that can leak an authorization code.

Vulnerability Detail

The vulnerability allows a malicious user or attacker to craft a request to the authorization endpoint using the authorization code grant type and specify a manipulated redirection URI. This can cause the authorization server to redirect the resource owner user-agent to a URI controlled by the attacker, leaking the authorization code. Applications acting as an Authorization Server and using the DefaultRedirectResolver in the AuthorizationEndpoint are affected.

How To Fix

Fixed versions by release line

Conclusion

The Open Redirect vulnerability in spring-security-oauth and spring-security-oauth2 can lead to the leakage of authorization codes, potentially allowing unauthorized access to protected resources. It is crucial to upgrade to the fixed versions of the packages (2.3.5, 2.2.4, 2.1.4, or 2.0.17) to mitigate this vulnerability. For further support on vulnerability remediation, contact DevNack.com.
