Background
Elasticsearch is an open-source search and analytics engine built on Apache Lucene. It provides distributed, real-time search and analytics capabilities for various types of data. This vulnerability affects versions before 7.2.1 and 6.8.2 of Elasticsearch. It is a race condition flaw in the response headers returned to a request. On a system with multiple users submitting requests, an attacker could potentially gain access to response headers containing sensitive data from another user.
Vulnerability Detail
The vulnerability arises due to a race condition in the response headers of Elasticsearch. When multiple users submit requests simultaneously, there is improper synchronization, allowing an attacker to access response headers that belong to another user. This could lead to the exposure of sensitive data, compromising the confidentiality of user information.
