Background

Apache Pulsar is an open-source distributed pub-sub messaging system that provides durable message storage and real-time messaging capabilities. The Proxy component of Apache Pulsar acts as an intermediary between clients and brokers, handling client requests and forwarding them to the appropriate broker. It plays a crucial role in the overall functioning of the messaging system.

Vulnerability Detail

The Proxy component of Apache Pulsar is susceptible to an Improper Input Validation vulnerability, which allows an attacker to abuse it as a Denial of Service (DoS) endpoint. By exploiting this vulnerability, an attacker can initiate TCP/IP connection attempts originating from the Pulsar Proxy's IP address. This enables the attacker to launch DoS attacks from the Proxy's IP address. It is important to note that the Pulsar Proxy authentication mechanism itself is not bypassed. The attacker must possess a valid token to a properly secured Pulsar Proxy. This vulnerability affects Apache Pulsar Proxy versions 2.7.0 to 2.7.4, 2.8.0 to 2.8.2, 2.9.0 to 2.9.1, and 2.6.4 and earlier.

How To Fix

Fixed versions by release line

The minimum fixed version depends on the release line you run.

  • < 2.7.5 2.7.5
  • >= 2.8.0, < 2.8.3 2.8.3
  • >= 2.9.0, < 2.9.2 2.9.2
