Background
Argo CD is an open-source continuous delivery tool for Kubernetes. It provides a declarative approach to managing and deploying applications in Kubernetes clusters. The repo-server component of Argo CD is responsible for managing repositories and their contents. It allows users to access and interact with Helm charts and other files stored in the repositories. However, a vulnerability in the repo-server component allows a malicious user with read-only repository access to leak sensitive files from the repo-server.
Vulnerability Detail
The vulnerability in Argo CD repo-server is a combination of path traversal and improper access control. A malicious user who has been granted read-only access to a repository can exploit this vulnerability by crafting an API request to the /api/v1/repositories/{repo_url}/appdetails endpoint. By referencing an out-of-bounds file in the request, the attacker can retrieve the contents of that file as part of the response. This can lead to the leakage of sensitive files from other applications' source repositories or any secrets mounted as files on the repo-server. The attacker needs to know or guess the location of the target file to exploit this vulnerability.
How To Fix

FAQ
Argo CD is an open-source continuous delivery tool for Kubernetes. It provides a declarative approach to managing and deploying applications in Kubernetes clusters.
The repo-server component of Argo CD is responsible for managing repositories and their contents. It allows users to access and interact with Helm charts and other files stored in the repositories.
The vulnerability is a combination of path traversal and improper access control. A malicious user with read-only repository access can craft an API request to the /api/v1/repositories/{repo_url}/appdetails endpoint to leak sensitive files from the repo-server.
Sensitive files that can be leaked include files from other applications' source repositories (potentially decrypted files) and any secrets mounted as files on the repo-server.
To fix this vulnerability, it is recommended to upgrade to one of the patched versions of Argo CD: v2.3.0, v2.2.6, or v2.1.11. Additionally, follow the mitigation steps mentioned in the 'how_to_fix' section.
