Background
Docling is an open-source library designed to simplify document processing by parsing various formats and integrating with the generative AI ecosystem. It provides functionalities such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR) through models like KServeV2OcrModel, which allows users to process documents efficiently. However, certain configurations may expose users to security risks if not properly managed.
Vulnerability Detail
The vulnerability arises from the KServeV2OcrModel class in the Docling package, which, from versions 2.83.0 to 2.131.0, sends page images to a configured endpoint without verifying the pipeline_options.enable_remote_services setting. This oversight allows remote OCR processing even when the caller has explicitly disabled remote services. The StandardPdfPipeline._make_ocr_model method fails to pass the necessary flag to the OCR factory, potentially leading to unauthorized access to sensitive data. Attackers could exploit this flaw if they can manipulate the endpoint configuration, resulting in data leakage.
How To Fix
Latest published version: 2.142.0 as of 22 Oct 2026
pip install --upgrade "docling==2.142.0"
Upgrading to it may include breaking changes; the version below is the minimum fixed release for this vulnerability.
If you need the minimum change
2.131.0
This is the first release that contains the fix.
pip install --upgrade "docling==2.131.0"

Workaround
As a temporary workaround, users can manually verify and control the endpoint configurations to ensure that remote services are not enabled, even if the package version cannot be updated immediately. However, this is not a foolproof solution and should only be a stopgap measure until the package is updated.
Conclusion
In summary, the vulnerability identified as CVE-2026-105746 in the Docling package allows for unauthorized remote OCR processing due to improper configuration handling. Users are advised to update to version 2.131.0 or later to mitigate this risk. Additionally, temporary workarounds can be implemented, but they are not a substitute for applying the patch.
