Background

Parse Server is an open-source backend platform that enables developers to build applications with a robust cloud infrastructure. It provides features such as data storage, user authentication, and real-time notifications. However, it is susceptible to vulnerabilities that can compromise sensitive user data, particularly when using LiveQuery functionalities.

Vulnerability Detail

The vulnerability arises from a reference detachment bug when a 'Parse.Cloud.afterLiveQueryEvent' trigger is registered for a class. This bug causes the LiveQuery server to leak protected fields and 'authData' to all subscribers of that class. Fields marked as protected via Class-Level Permissions are included in LiveQuery event payloads for all event types, allowing unauthorized users to access sensitive personal information and OAuth tokens from third-party authentication providers.

How To Fix

Latest published version: 9.10.5 as of 22 Oct 2026

npm install parse-server@9.10.5

Upgrading to it may include breaking changes; the versions below are the minimum fixed release for this vulnerability.

If you can't move to the latest

The minimum fixed version depends on the release line you run.

  • < 8.6.50 8.6.50
    npm install parse-server@8.6.50
  • >= 9.0.0, < 9.6.0-alpha.35 9.6.0-alpha.35

Workaround

As a temporary workaround, remove all 'Parse.Cloud.afterLiveQueryEvent' trigger registrations. This will prevent the reference detachment from occurring, ensuring that protected fields are correctly filtered.

Conclusion

The CVE-2026-33163 vulnerability in Parse Server poses a significant risk by leaking protected fields to unauthorized users. It is crucial to update to the patched versions or implement the suggested workaround to safeguard sensitive information.
