Background

The Jenkins Assembla Plugin is a tool that integrates Jenkins with Assembla, a project management and collaboration platform. This plugin allows users to manage their Assembla projects directly from Jenkins, facilitating continuous integration and delivery workflows. However, versions 1.4 and earlier of this plugin are vulnerable due to a lack of proper permission checks, which can expose sensitive information and allow unauthorized actions.

Vulnerability Detail

The Jenkins Assembla Plugin 1.4 and earlier does not implement a permission check in an HTTP endpoint that tests the connection to an Assembla server. This oversight allows attackers with Overall/Read permission to connect to any URL specified by them using arbitrary usernames and passwords. Furthermore, the endpoint does not enforce POST requests, leading to a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability. This could result in unauthorized access to sensitive data or actions being performed on behalf of legitimate users.
