Background
Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language, which includes modules, classes, exceptions, very high level dynamic data types and dynamic typing. Python supports interfaces to many system calls and libraries, as well as to various windowing systems.
Vulnerability Detail
The python3 package is affected by two security vulnerabilities:
-
Path traversal on tempfile.TemporaryDirectory (CVE-2023-6597): This vulnerability allows an attacker to perform a path traversal attack when using the tempfile.TemporaryDirectory class. By exploiting this vulnerability, an attacker can access files outside of the intended directory.
-
Zip-bombs leading to denial of service (CVE-2024-0450): The zipfile module in Python is vulnerable to zip-bombs, which are maliciously crafted zip files that can cause a denial of service by consuming excessive CPU and memory resources when extracted.
How To Fix
