Background
The systemd package is a system and service manager for Linux that is compatible with SysV and LSB init scripts. It provides various capabilities such as aggressive parallelism, socket and D-Bus activation for starting services, on-demand starting of daemons, process tracking using Linux cgroups, snapshotting and restoring system state, managing mount and automount points, and implementing transactional dependency-based service control logic. It can also serve as a drop-in replacement for sysvinit.
Vulnerability Detail
This vulnerability in systemd allows for a local information leak and a deadlock in systemd-coredump. The systemd-coredump component does not respect the fs.suid_dumpable kernel setting, leading to a local information leak. Additionally, a crash with a long backtrace can cause a deadlock in systemd-coredump. These vulnerabilities can potentially be exploited to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information or cause a denial-of-service condition.
