Background

Apache Airflow is an open-source platform designed to programmatically author, schedule, and monitor workflows. It allows users to define workflows as Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) and provides a rich user interface to manage and visualize these workflows. However, a recent vulnerability has been identified that affects the authorization mechanism of its log server, potentially compromising the security of log access across different DAGs.

Vulnerability Detail

The vulnerability arises from an Incorrect Authorization issue in Apache Airflow's Log server. Attackers who are already authenticated as Airflow workers can exploit this flaw by holding a valid Log-server JWT issued for at least one DAG. The Log server authorizes JWT tokens against DAG IDs using Python's str.lstrip() method, which strips characters from the left side of the string. This means that a JWT issued for a DAG named 'dag_a' could inadvertently authorize access to logs of other DAGs whose names start with any subset of the characters {d, a, g, _}. As a result, an authenticated worker could enumerate and read logs of other DAGs, leaking sensitive task outputs and error traces, thus breaching the intended isolation between DAGs.

Conclusion

The Incorrect Authorization vulnerability in Apache Airflow (CVE-2026-45426) poses a significant risk to the security of log access across different DAGs. Users are strongly advised to upgrade to version 3.2.2 or later to protect against potential data leaks and unauthorized access.
