Background

The stdlib package is a standard library in the Go programming language. It provides a collection of packages that offer fundamental functionality for building Go applications. The net/http package within stdlib is responsible for handling HTTP requests and responses. It is widely used for creating web servers and clients.

Vulnerability Detail

The net/http package in stdlib mishandles the case where a server responds to a request with an 'Expect: 100-continue' header with a non-informational (200 or higher) status. This mishandling can lead to an invalid state in the client connection, causing subsequent requests to fail. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending 'Expect: 100-continue' requests to a net/http/httputil.ReverseProxy proxy, eliciting non-informational responses from the backend. Each request leaves the proxy with an invalid connection, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) attack.

No fixed version is published for this vulnerability.

Workaround

There is no known workaround for this vulnerability. It is recommended to update the stdlib package to the fixed versions.

Conclusion

The net/http package in the stdlib is vulnerable to a denial of service attack due to improper handling of 'Expect: 100-continue' headers. Developers should update to the fixed versions (1.21.12 or 1.22.5) to mitigate the risk of exploitation.
