Background
phpMyAdmin is a popular web-based administration tool for managing MySQL databases. It provides a user-friendly interface to perform various tasks such as creating databases, managing tables, executing queries, and more. This vulnerability affects phpMyAdmin versions prior to 4.3.7-11 in Debian 6.0 ecosystem.
Vulnerability Detail
The CSRF (Cross-Site Request Forgery) authentication code in phpMyAdmin suffers from two weaknesses:
-
CVE-2016-2039: The XSRF/CSRF token is generated using a weak algorithm that does not provide cryptographically secure values.
-
CVE-2016-2041: The comparison of the XSRF/CSRF token parameter with the value saved in the session is vulnerable to timing attacks. Additionally, the comparison can be bypassed if the XSRF/CSRF token matches a specific pattern.
These vulnerabilities can allow an attacker to forge requests on behalf of authenticated users, potentially leading to unauthorized actions, data manipulation, or information disclosure.
How To Fix
