Background

libxfixes is a library that provides a client interface to the X11 XFIXES extension. It allows clients to manipulate and query the state of the XFIXES extension, which provides various fixes for the X server. This vulnerability affects the Debian 7 Wheezy version of libxfixes.

Vulnerability Detail

An integer overflow vulnerability was discovered in libxfixes. The field rep.length, which is a 32-bit value, was not properly checked for validity. This allowed a malicious server to send INT_MAX as the length, resulting in an integer overflow on 32-bit systems. As a consequence, the client would not read the entire data from the server, causing synchronization issues. The impact of this vulnerability could potentially lead to denial of service or arbitrary code execution.
