Background

p7zip is a file archiver with high compression ratio. It is used to compress and decompress files in the 7z format. The vulnerability affects p7zip version 9.20.1~dfsg.1-4+deb7u2 on Debian 7 Wheezy. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to exploit an out-of-bound read vulnerability in the CInArchive::ReadFileItem method. By processing a specially crafted UDF file, an attacker can cause a denial-of-service or potentially execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running p7zip.
