Background
Tomcat7 is a popular open-source web server and servlet container that is widely used for hosting Java-based web applications. It provides a robust and scalable platform for running Java web applications, supporting features such as HTTP connectors, session management, and security mechanisms. However, a vulnerability has been discovered in the error handling of the send file code for the NIO HTTP connector in Tomcat7.
Vulnerability Detail
The vulnerability in Tomcat7's send file code allows for the current Processor object to be added to the Processor cache multiple times. This can result in the same Processor being used for concurrent requests, leading to information leakage between requests. This information can include sensitive data such as session IDs and response bodies. The vulnerability also includes a regression when running Tomcat7 with SecurityManager enabled, due to an incomplete fix for a previous vulnerability (CVE-2016-6816).
How To Fix
Minimum fixed version
7.0.28-4+deb7u9
This is the first release that contains the fix.
sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade tomcat7
