Background

The pch_can package is a component of the Linux Kernel, which is responsible for handling Controller Area Network (CAN) devices. CAN is a communication protocol used in automotive and industrial applications. The pch_can module provides support for the PCH (Platform Controller Hub) CAN controller found in Intel chipsets. This vulnerability affects the pch_can_rx_normal function in the pch_can module.

Vulnerability Detail

The pch_can_rx_normal function in the pch_can module suffers from a use after free vulnerability. This vulnerability was introduced in version v2.6.37 of the Linux Kernel and was fixed in version v5.10.85. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service by manipulating the CAN bus. The vulnerability occurs when the pch_can_rx_normal function attempts to access a pointer that has already been freed, leading to undefined behavior.
