Background
System.Text.Json is a package in the .NET ecosystem that provides high-performance, low-allocating JSON APIs for processing JSON data. It is widely used in .NET applications for serialization and deserialization of JSON objects. However, a vulnerability has been discovered in versions 4.6.0-preview6.19259.10 to 8.0.3 of System.Text.Json, which can lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) attack.
Vulnerability Detail
The vulnerability arises when the JsonSerializer.DeserializeAsyncEnumerable method is used with untrusted input. This can be exploited by an attacker to cause a DoS condition in the affected .NET application. By providing specially crafted input, the attacker can trigger excessive resource consumption, leading to unresponsiveness or crashes in the application.
