Background
Graphite-web is a web application that provides a user interface for the Graphite time series database. It allows users to visualize and analyze data stored in Graphite. The vulnerability affects versions 0.9.5 through 0.9.10 of Graphite-web. The application uses the pickle Python module unsafely, which enables remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by exploiting a crafted serialized object. This vulnerability is different from CVE-2013-5093.
Vulnerability Detail
The vulnerability in Graphite-web arises from the unsafe usage of the pickle Python module. By sending a specially crafted serialized object, remote attackers can execute arbitrary code on the target system. This can lead to various consequences, including unauthorized access, data manipulation, and system compromise. The affected files are remote_storage.py, storage.py, render/datalib.py, and whitelist/views.py.
