Background
pgAdmin 4 is a popular open-source administration and development platform for PostgreSQL, designed to provide a user-friendly interface for database management. It allows users to perform various tasks such as querying, managing database objects, and monitoring server performance. However, a critical SQL injection vulnerability has been identified in its Maintenance Tool, which could allow authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL commands on the connected PostgreSQL server.
Vulnerability Detail
The vulnerability arises from the improper handling of four user-supplied JSON fields (buffer_usage_limit, vacuum_parallel, vacuum_index_cleanup, reindex_tablespace) in the pgAdmin 4 Maintenance Tool. These fields were concatenated directly into the VACUUM/ANALYZE/REINDEX command without proper sanitization, enabling an authenticated user with the tools_maintenance permission to break out of the command syntax. This could lead to arbitrary SQL execution on the PostgreSQL server, potentially allowing attackers to escalate privileges and execute operating system commands via the COPY ... TO PROGRAM functionality.
How To Fix
Latest published version: 9.18.0 as of 22 Oct 2026
pip install --upgrade "pgadmin4==9.18.0"
Upgrading to it may include breaking changes; the version below is the minimum fixed release for this vulnerability.
If you need the minimum change
9.15
This is the first release that contains the fix.
pip install --upgrade "pgadmin4==9.15"

Workaround
As a temporary workaround, users can restrict access to the Maintenance Tool by limiting the permissions of users who have the tools_maintenance permission until the package is updated.
Conclusion
The SQL injection vulnerability in pgAdmin 4's Maintenance Tool poses a significant risk to PostgreSQL servers. Users are strongly advised to update to version 9.15 or later to mitigate this risk. Additionally, implementing temporary workarounds can help protect against potential exploitation until the update is applied.

Exploitation of this vulnerability could allow attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands and escalate privileges, potentially leading to full control over the PostgreSQL server.
If immediate updating is not possible, consider restricting access to the Maintenance Tool and monitoring for any suspicious activity on your PostgreSQL server.
